STMicroelectronics' new IIS3DWB vibration sensor and accompanying circuit board STEVAL-STWINKT1 multi-sensor evaluation kit can accelerate the development cycle of machine operating condition monitoring systems. Condition monitoring systems can infer equipment maintenance needs and improve industrial production efficiency. Analyzing monitored vibration data on-premises or in the cloud can help you develop an operational strategy that maximizes machine uptime, minimizes maintenance costs, and avoids emergency repair incidents.
The IIS3DWB is a 3-axis MEMS accelerometer optimized for industrial vibration monitoring. The STEVAL-STWINKT1 evaluation board integrates IIS3DWB and other sensors, ultra-low power microcontrollers and vibration handling algorithms, Bluetooth® wireless modules and USB interfaces to simplify prototyping and product testing. The kit comes in a plastic case with an internal battery for immediate application development and provides an easy-to-use reference design. The suite comes with software tools such as high-speed data loggers and cloud dashboards to help collect, analyze and display measurement results.
Alessandro Cremonesi, Vice President of Systems Research and Applications at STMicroelectronics, said: "Machine condition monitoring is critical to the digital transformation of industry, not only helping factories improve manufacturing performance and production safety, but also enabling new services and business models. "Our vibration sensor and IIoT multi-sensor development kits and reference designs are the best-performing and most affordable solutions on the market today to help customers achieve high-performance and cost-effective plug and play industrial sensor systems."
STMicroelectronics is already delivering IIS3DWB to SPM Instruments of Sweden, an industrial iot technology innovator, for use in the company's battery-powered AIRIUS wireless vibration sensor. Rikard Svard, Global Sales Director for SPM Instruments, commented: "We chose the IIS3DWB because it can integrate unique features in a low-power digital device, including a 3-axis sensor, broadband and low noise, which helps us achieve the performance, development cycle and cost targets we set for AIRIUS."
