ST introduces a new RF IC BPF8089-01SC6 that simplifies GNSS receiver design

     STMicroelectronics has announced a new Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver RF front-end chip, the BPF8089-01SC6, that integrates impedance matching and electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection circuit functions normally required with discrete components on the same chip, simplifying design and saving board space.

     The BPF8089-01SC6 provides a 50Ω impedance matching interface between the satellite receiver antenna and the low noise amplifier (LNA), which can be used directly with ST's low noise amplifiers STA8089 and STA8090 LNA. This compact, highly integrated device can typically replace a matching circuit consisting of up to five capacitors, resistors and inductors, as well as two discrete protection devices, resulting in significant savings in board area. In addition, designers can use the PCB trace specification in the device data manual to reduce design difficulty and achieve the best RF performance

     The ESD protection of the new product complies with the IEC 61000-4-22 (C = 150pF, R = 330Ω) standard and is higher than the level 4 safe contact discharge of 8kV and air discharge of 15kV. The device can also withstand 2kV pulse voltages specified in MIL STD 883C(C = 100pF, R = 1.5kΩ).

     The BPF8089-01SC6 is suitable for portable receivers for GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, Beidou and QZSS navigation satellite systems with a wide range of applications, including consumer satellite navigation, radio base stations, drones, assets or livestock tracking.
