ST introduces a new connected automotive MCU for secure remote updates and high-speed in-vehicle networking

     STMicroelectronics introduces the latest high-performance multi-interface multi-core automotive microcontroller to make connected cars safer, more flexible in application development and secure the latest performance upgrades. As critical functions such as powertrain, body, chassis and infotainment systems become increasingly software-based, secure delivery of updates such as fixes, optional packages and more via over-the-air (OTA) technology can increase cost effectiveness and provide greater convenience to users. With state-of-the-art security technology and ample on-chip code storage capacity, ST's latest Chorus automotive microcontroller is among the industry's first automotive gateway/domain controller chips to securely handle major OTA updates.

     As the new flagship of the STMicroelectronics Chorus series of automotive microcontrollers, the SPC58 H Line is equipped with three high-performance processor cores, more than 1.2MB of RAM, and powerful on-chip peripherals that can run multiple different applications simultaneously. Achieve a more flexible and cost-effective on-board electronic system architecture. Two separate Ethernet ports can create a high-speed data connection channel between multiple Chorus chips throughout the vehicle and enable responsive on-board diagnostics. Chorus also features 16 CAN-FD interfaces and 24 LINFlex™ interfaces that CAN be used as gateways to connect multiple ECUs (electronic control units) and support smart gateway functionality via 2 on-chip Ethernet interfaces.

     To protect the functionality of connected cars and securely install OTA software updates, the new Chorus chip integrates a Hardware Security module (HSM). The module features asymmetric encryption and is fully EVITA compliant, enabling industry-leading attack defense, detection, and temporary containment technologies.

     Key customers have already received samples of SPC58 Chorus H Line microcontrollers for the next generation of automotive intelligent gateways and body control modules, and we are evaluating the new microcontrollers for battery management units and ADAS security controllers.
