ST introduces new automotive communication protection devices with integrated common-mode filters and ESD suppression

     STMicroelectronics' vehicle certified ECMF04-4HSM10Y and ECMF04-4HSWM10Y high-speed serial bus automotive common Mode Filters (CMF) incorporate low clamp voltage transient suppression diodes that can be used to protect interface chips. Available in 2.6mm x 1.35mm QFN10L package.

     As the first common-mode filters on the market to be certified for vehicle specification and automotive surge compliance, these products are not only manufactured and certified according to AEC-Q101 requirements, but also designed and tested for automotive surge characteristics such as ISO10605.

     These filters can replace discrete common mode chokes or larger LTCC (low temperature co-fired ceramics) integrated devices that do not offer ESD protection. They are essential for the reliable function of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and are commonly used in high-speed data lines and other connectivity lines for cameras, radars, displays, multimedia devices to prevent interference problems with wireless communication devices. With a 3.5mm2 package and a height of 0.75mm, both products save board space, simplify design, and reduce bill of material costs.

     The differential bandwidth of ECMF04-4HSM10Y is 2.2GHz, which can suppress the common mode noise of communication connections such as HDMI 1.4 and MIPI. Deep attenuation of -25dB at 900MHz and -14dB at 1.5GHz prevents radiated noise from reducing the sensitivity of cellular and GPS antennas.

     The ECMF04-4HSWM10Y has a larger bandwidth of 3.5GHz, and the application range is extended to LVDS, DisplayPort, USB 3.1 and HDMI 2.0 buses. The ECMF04-4HSWM10Y attenuates at 30dB at 2.4GHz and -16dB at 5.0GHz, protecting Bluetooth devices and V2x (vehicle-object communication) Wi-Fi antennas, as well as cellular and GPS systems.
