STMicroelectronics has introduced a new solution to accelerate iot product time-to-market that leverages off-the-shelf micro STM32 wireless microcontroller (MCU) modules to accelerate the development cycle of new iot devices based on Bluetooth LE and 802.15.4.
The 7mm x 11.3mm STM32WB5MMG module enables product development teams that lack wireless design capabilities to develop iot products. Designed for the development of low-cost PCB boards with minimal layers, the new module integrates the entire RF subsystem up to the antenna. Users also have free access to ST's STM32Cube MCU development ecosystem tools, design wizards, RF protocol stacks and complete software libraries to complete development projects quickly and efficiently.
Ricardo de Sa Earp, division Vice President and General Manager of Microcontroller Products at STMicroelectronics, said: "Our first STM32-based wireless module helps simplify technical challenges and brings exciting growth opportunities to the smart iot device market. As an off-the-shelf, single-package complete RF subsystem, the STM32WB5MMG is an out-of-the-box wireless solution with excellent RF performance and is certified to the Bluetooth, Zigbee and OpenThread specifications."
In addition, the module supports ST's unique co-existing dual-protocol mode, which allows users to directly connect any protocol based on IEEE 802.15.4 RF technology, including Zigbee 3.0 and OpenThread, to any Bluetooth Low energy BLE device.
Thanks to all the features of STMicroelectronics' STM32WB55 ultra-low power wireless microcontroller, the module can be used in a variety of application scenarios for smart home, smart building and smart factory devices. Users can use the MCU dual-core architecture to separate RF and application processing, processing performance will not be affected by any factors; Both large capacity storage for RF application code and data, and the latest network security features to protect equipment security.
