Within ZigBee RF4CE remote controls and set-top boxes, televisions, home gateways, alarms, and lighting fixtures, STMicroelectronics' new DPF -GP-01D3 integrated dual differential filter can replace up to 16 discrete patch devices, saving 35mm2 of printed circuit board area. The extra space gives designers the freedom to simplify board layout, reduce product size, or add new features.
The DPF GP-01D3 is an impedance matched chip for GreenPeak GP540 / GP561 RF4CE communication controllers. Both controllers can integrate a low-cost signal layer on the printed circuit board, and the DPF GP-01D3 pins can be used to design short, straight signal wires, ground wires, and common connections between the filter and the controller.
The two integrated filter channels provide excellent attenuation performance outside the 2400-2500MHz frequency range, with very low in-band insertion loss and return loss. St's superior performance helps designers meet the requirements of the ZigBee RF4CE specification. The excellent signal integrity is attributed to ST's Integrated Passive Device (IPD) technology and non-conductive glass substrate.
In addition, the DPF GP-01D3 monolithic solution simplifies circuit design and significantly reduces Bill Of Materials (BOM) costs. A package area of just 1.2mm x 3.4mm, combined with a reflow height of less than 560 μm, makes it the smallest dual-channel low-pass filter solution on the GreenPeak GP540 / GP561 companion filter market. Today, complete filter circuits occupy less than one-tenth the area of traditional discrete device filter solutions on the printed circuit board.
