ST introduces variable mode MEMS industrial-grade accelerometers with high measurement resolution and ultra-low power consumption

STMicroelectronics introduces the IIS2DLPC 3-axis MEMS accelerometer that dynamically changes operating modes between ultra-low power consumption and high resolution, enabling high-precision measurements within a limited power budget. The sensor continuously performs context-aware functions, wakes up the host system when commanded, takes high-precision measurements, and then returns to ultra-low power mode.

     STMicroelectronics introduces the IIS2DLPC 3-axis MEMS accelerometer that dynamically changes operating modes between ultra-low power consumption and high resolution, enabling high-precision measurements within a limited power budget. The sensor continuously performs context-aware functions, wakes up the host system when commanded, takes high-precision measurements, and then returns to ultra-low power mode. In 2mm x 2mm x 0.7mm plastic contact array (LGA) package,the wide operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C makes the IIS2DLPC ideal for industrial applications.

 

     Based on this flexible working mode, users can develop longer-lasting battery-powered industrial sensor nodes or medical devices, anti-theft smart meters, and intelligent power saving or motion-activated functions. In addition, taking advantage of the extremely low power consumption available, designers can design smart accessories for industrial manufacturing equipment or robots into battery-powered add-ons that are easy to use and integrate.

 

     Four low power mode options allow users to optimize power consumption in a wide range of application scenarios. It has extremely low noise, as low as 90μg/√Hz in high resolution mode, for excellent measurement accuracy. Other features of the IIS2DLPC provide users with more power control, including easy-to-use one-time data conversion and a 32-level FIFO cache for storing bulk data to reduce CPU intervention. The IIS2DLPC also integrates a temperature sensor and self-test function.
