
STMicroelectronics' new EVL150W-HVSL LED Driver evaluation board and reference design will ensure superior performance of LED luminaries, save Bill of Material (BOM) costs, and accelerate the development of LED street lights and other mid to high power lighting applications.
As a 150W, 1A mains input driver, EVL150W-HVSL can achieve up to 91% full load energy efficiency, which can maximize the cost of electricity for street lamp operators. Electromagnetic interference (EMI) within the scope specified in the EN55022 EMC standard, in the 230V AC, 30% to 100% load range, the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the input current is less than 10%, In line with European EN61000-3-2 Class-C and Japan JEITA-MITI Class-C lighting equipment specifications.
The EVL150W-HVSL evaluation board is equipped with a 90V-264V AC universal input, complies with IEC 60950-1 and 62368-1 safety standards, supports three dimming modes of analog, resistance and PWM(pulse width modulation), and has a flicker-free PWM dimming depth of 1% at any switching frequency.
In addition, the evaluation board also contains ST's STCMB1 highly integrated power factor correction (PFC) controller and a high-voltage resonant half-bridge controller with LCC topology, which provides constant current output independent of output voltage, making it ideal for driving LED lamps. Unique technical features include constant on-time PFC control, resonant half-bridge time-shift control, and hard switch prevention to save on external component costs and ensure excellent dynamic performance and ripple suppression. In burst mode, the PFC and half-bridge drive are synchronized, reducing the light load input power consumption to less than 0.5W. The compact 20-pin STCMB1 also integrates an 800V start circuit as well as an X capacitor discharge and power sequencing circuit without the need for any auxiliary power supply.
LED lamps also benefit from the EVL150W-HVSL's full range of electrical protection features, including output overload, output short circuit and open loop protection, each of which has an automatic restart function to meet the requirements of street light applications.
