ST releases advanced, high-performance wireless microcontrollers to comply with upcoming cybersecurity protection regulations

STMicroelectronics has announced a new generation of near-range wireless microcontrollers. After adopting these all-in-one innovative products, smart products such as wearables, smart home devices, health monitors, and smart appliances will become smaller, easier to use, safer, and more affordable.

After adopting these all-in-one innovative products, smart products such as wearables, smart home devices, health monitors, and smart appliances will become smaller, easier to use, safer, and more affordable.

 

     Near field wireless communication technologies such as Bluetooth LE Low Energy, Zigbee and Thread(which are hot in the smart meter and smart building markets) can connect smart devices to controllers such as home Bridges, gateways and smartphones. As people look for ways to live a lower cost, low-carbon, green, and comfortable life, companies want to bring high-performance innovative solutions to market faster with tight cost controls. These solutions must look stylish: small, thin, and even invisible embedded in other devices, such as smart light bulbs. In order to get rid of cable fetters, flexible to use, stylish design, wireless is one direction in this trend.

 

     St wireless microcontrollers, such as the new STM32WBA5 series, can be used to design very small single-chip wireless connectivity solutions, reducing material costs and wireless communication design difficulties, and reducing time to market for end products. In addition, the new product line is compatible with development tools and software packages for the STM32 microcontroller development ecosystem, which simplifies the wireless transformation of existing wired connectivity products.

 

     The flagship STM32WBA55 microcontroller of the new family can run multiple wireless technology standards simultaneously, including Bluetooth Low Power Bluetooth LE 5.4, Zigbee, Thread and Matter(Thread RCP). The Matter Border Router and the STM32WBA5 are the perfect combination to enable this new standard of open source connectivity for smart home and iot devices. As a result, the STM32WBA55 supports a better user experience while simplifying the development process for hardware and software engineers, reducing the cost of new products and speeding time to market.

 

     The new generation also supports the recently released Bluetooth LE Audio Bluetooth Low Energy audio specification, enabling exciting innovations to deliver a richer listening experience. These technologies include the new Bluetooth Auracast™ capability, which opens the door to a new world of audio broadcast applications.

     The STM32WBA family is the first wireless MCUS on the market to receive Level 3 security certification from the important cybersecurity standard SESIP(iot Platform Security Assessment Standard), so STM32WBA-based smart devices can meet the US Cybersecurity Mark regulation and the EU Radio Equipment Directive (RED), which takes effect in 2025.
