STMicroelectronics' ST25R100 Near Field Communication (NFC) reader chip is unique in the industry, combining advanced technical features, stable and reliable communication connections and low cost prices to enhance the value of contactless interaction in mass-manufactured consumer electronics and industrial control equipment.
Measuring only 4mm x 4mm, the ST25R100 combines high performance, reliability and low power consumption to support mainstream non-access use cases. The compact package is easily integrated into end products such as printers, power tools, game consoles, home appliances, medical equipment and access control systems.
Sylvain Fidelis, business line Manager, Integrated Markets, STMicroelectronics, said: "For a variety of product devices, disconnected communication is a good way to implement device interaction, for example, verifying the authenticity of accessories, purchasing consumables, monitoring usage. "The ST25R100 product itself offers a better price/performance ratio, and our firmware ecosystem helps our customers accelerate application development, so it's an inexpensive, integrated, easy-to-read data solution."
The ST25R100 supports the advanced control features needed to improve signal quality and power management efficiency, ensuring a stable, reliable wireless connection and strong signal even in devices with limited space that can only accommodate small antennas. In addition, the ST25R100 also adds an enhanced Low power card recognition function (LPCD), which can significantly extend the detection distance compared to existing new products, providing a good user experience.
The ST25R100 integrates an advanced analog front end (AFE) and data framing system that supports standard NFC specifications, NFC-A/B (ISO 14443A/B, up to 106kb/s) and NFC-V (ISO 15693, up to 53kbit/s) to read data on the card.
The power supply voltage and peripheral I/O voltage of the new reader chip range from 2.7V to 5.5V, and the multiple operating modes combined with the power management function can reduce the chip current to as little as 1µA, thereby extending the life of battery-powered devices. There is also a reset mode that consumes only 0.1µA.
