ST semiconductor enhancement ST25DV dual interface NFC label performance

     The ST Semiconductor has improved the I2C interface performance of the new generation of ST25DV-I2C dynamic NFC-TAG IC, allowing the host system to read the EEPROM memory on the label chip faster and more easily.

     Now through the I2C interface, the EEPROM writing data on the new ST25DV-I2C label is as fast as the standard EEPROM, and the labels can be used flexibly according to the needs to reduce the cost of the system material list. In addition, the designer can now configure the I2C address of the label to ensure that the label can coexist with other devices on the bus.

     As a Type 5 NFC tag certified by the NFC Forum, the ST25DV-I2C supports contactless interaction with a 13.56MHz RFID reader and an NFC mobile phone, enabling common use cases, such as the light-touch pairing of two devices using NFC Data Exchange Format (NDEF) messages. The new tag also expands wireless communication capabilities, including support for arbitration, making it easier to access data written to the EEPROM through the RF interface.

     With its enhanced performance and increased flexibility, the new generation ST25DV-I2C can improve productivity and production efficiency for industrial applications such as smart meters, asset tracking and logistics, and bring superior user experiences for medical devices, smart home devices and lighting, smart devices, retail labels and consumer products. The ST25DV tag enables multiple use cases across the lifecycle of a product, including parameter configuration and product tracking, user functionality, field maintenance, and scrap management.

     The new tag retains the robustness and convenience features of the previous generation, including support for fast transfer modes and energy harvesting. Stmicro's innovative fast transfer mode utilizes 256-byte buffers to speed up the processing of large files, for example, host system firmware updates. An internal energy harvesting control circuit provides a non-regulated output to power external components for battery-free applications.

     The ST25DV dynamic label is compliant with the NFC Forum Type-5 specification and has a built-in EEPROM memory capacity of up to 64Kbits. EEPROM features include configurable user memory password protection and an interrupt pin that can be set to respond to various events detected by the RF interface.

     The new generation ST25DV-I2C tag comes in SO-8, TSSOP-8 and chip-level packages, including 8-pin UFDFPN, 12-pin UFDFPN and WLCSP-10. Samples and ST25DV-I2C series dynamic labels are now available for free on our online store eStore.
