STMicroelectronics announced the extension of SPC56 MCU long-term supply commitment

STMicroelectronics announced an extension of its long-term commitment for SPC56 vehicle gauge microcontrollers (MCUS) deployed in millions of automotive powertrain, chassis and body applications worldwide. Luca Rodeschini, General Manager of ST's Automotive Processors and RF Technologies division, said: "The SPC56 series has a long history in the market and remains the automotive MCU of choice for a wide range of design projects, combining computational performance, robustness and reliability. "To ensure long-term support for our customers' new applications as well as those already on the market, we are today announcing an extension of our unique product lifecycle program to 20 years, which means that the SPC56 MCUS launched in 2014 will remain on the market until at least 2034."

Technical details

The SPC56 Series PowerArchitecture 32-bit automotive MCUS are available in both single-core and multi-core product categories, with scalable performance, non-volatile memory capacity ranging from 256 KB to 4 MB, multiple external interfaces, and support for mainstream automotive connectivity standards such as LINFlex, LINFlex, and Linflex. FlexCAN and FlexRay™ also include 10 - and 12-bit resolution ADCs and multiple DSPI serial peripheral interfaces.

The SPC56 series includes generic vehicle gauge MCUS tailored for body and gateway applications and offers a wealth of peripheral interfaces including I2C, fast Ethernet, and flexible ADC channels with watchdog and timer (eTPU, eMIOS). SPC56 High performance MCU focuses on chassis safety applications such as powertrain and airbag control, and multi-core processors provide customers with higher performance. Designers developing safety-critical applications can choose products that support the ASIL-D functional safety standard. On-chip safety features include memory error correction code (ECC) protection, fault collection and control unit (FCCU), and chip fail-safe mode.
