STMicroelectronics began mass production of the new train gauge high-edge power switch tube, the new product adopts ST's proprietary intelligent fuse protection function and supports SPI digital interface, improving design flexibility and functional safety. The four-channel VNF9Q20F is the first product in ST's new family of power switches using the advanced single-chip VIPower M0-9 MOSFET process and integrating STi2Fuse's patented technology. STi2Fuse products are based on I2t(current squared through time-to-fuse) patented technology that detects overcurrent and enables fast response and shutdown of MOSFET power switch tubes within 100µs.
The VNF9Q20F is used as a smart circuit breaker to enhance voltage stability on the circuit board and prevent overheating of PCB circuit board tracks, connectors, and harnesses. In preventing damaging overloads, ST's new gauge power switch also supports a capacitive charging mode that allows for the presence of harmless impulse currents and, therefore, is able to operate normally under large capacitive load conditions.
The VNF9Q20F is suitable for the latest area control electrical/electronic architecture, also replaces fuses and relays, ECU distribution isolation, and supports power distribution management of the vehicle's electrical system while parked. Because STi2Fuse supports a programmable configuration of 64 current-limiting values, it gives designers the flexibility to handle overloads with high precision.
A 10-bit analog digital converter (ADC) and fault register are integrated on the chip to provide rich diagnostic information and digital current detection feedback to support vehicle-related functions, such as predictive maintenance. The VNF9Q20F provides diagnostic data via SPI with built-in self-testing capabilities that enable the system to meet the safety integrity level specified in ISO 26262. The embedded fail-safe mode keeps the system working in the event of a failure or malfunction.
