The ST A7987 automotive switch regulator has a wide input voltage for trucks and large buses, adjustable output voltage, flexible and versatile performance, and can supply a variety of voltage rails in automotive applications such as body infotainment and telematics services. The A7987 has a maximum input voltage of 61V and can be powered by a 24V automotive battery in conventional or hybrid/electric vehicles to maintain a stable voltage output even in the event of interference such as load rejection. Output voltage regulation ranges from 0.8V to input voltage, low voltage difference, providing up to 3A output current for a variety of loads from logic control to lighting.
By setting current limits and switching frequencies (up to 1.5MHz) with external pull-down resistors, designers can create compact power modules that optimize the output inductance size. The method of pulse current detection and digital frequency folding is used to minimize the stress of short circuit on power element and improve the reliability of voltage regulator. Built-in thermal protection, which can be overheated off and automatically restored, minimizes dependence on external intervention.
The A7987 has a low-resistance N-channel power MOSFET tube, which controls the switch with pulse cross-period modulation to maintain a stable voltage output at low load. The offset voltage input pin integrates a power switch function, which can use an external power supply to power the analog circuit for optimal energy efficiency.
Synchronous pins enable up to five regulators to co-exist in a phase switching manner, avoiding noise effects and reducing RMS current in the input capacitance; The power-on sequence can be controlled with the enable pin and the adjustable delay power ready indicator; There is also an adjustable soft start function for limiting inrush current.
