STMicroelectronics introduces STM32 and STM8 certification packages to help devices meet functional safety standards

     STMicroelectronics has released three functional safety software packages to simplify the development of safety-critical industrial, medical, consumer and automotive products based on STM32 and STM8 microcontrollers and microprocessors. These packages are free to download and use and contain the resources needed to meet the applicable IEC and ISO specifications.

     With more than 1,000 STM32 microcontrollers, as well as the STM8 family of microcontrollers, including STM8AF automotion-grade certified products, ST offers developers a wide range of product choices and affordable prices that are often not available with expensive, dedicated secure MCUS.The industrial functional safety package X-CuB-STL is certified to IEC 61508 SC3 by the TUV Rheinland Certification Testing Institute and, when used in conjunction with the conditions of use of the safety manual, can implement safety functions with safety integrity levels SIL-2 or SIL-3 on the STM32.

     The X-CUBE-STL is now live and supports most STM32 products, with packages supporting STM32L5, dual-core STM32H7 and STM32MP1 scheduled for release in Q4 2020.For safety-critical home appliances, X-CuB-ClassB is functional safety certified by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) to IEC 60335-1 and 60730-1. Applicable to STM32F0, G0, F1, F3, G4, F2, F4, F7, H7, L0, L1, L4 and WB series STM32 microcontrollers.

     The STM8-SafecLASSB software package enables device developers to take advantage of the high energy efficiency, low cost and low power consumption of STM8 products. X-CUBE-STL, X-CUBE-CLASSB, and STM8-SafeCLASSB contain application-independent self-test libraries for CPU cores and memory components, as well as necessary security documentation.

     The STM8A-SafeASIL package provides the documentation required for the development of automotive functional safety applications at the highest ASIL level B, is suitable for the ISO 26262-compliant software development process, and helps users implement the software self-test library required by the STM8AF safety manual.All embedded developers can use these packages to overcome engineering challenges, accelerate project development cycles, and minimize certification costs.

     Service support from ST authorized partners covers all phases of the product development lifecycle, including security requirements; Safety diagnosis, testing and verification; And product certification. These licensing partners include Embedded Office, Microsoft, Arm, SEGGER and Wittenstein, each offering a secure RTOS operating system that supports STM32 microcontrollers and microprocessors. In addition, IAR Systems and Arm offer functional safety certified STM8 and STM32 compilers.
