STMicroelectronics' IIS2ICLX is a high-precision, low-power dual-axis digital inclinometer for applications such as industrial automation and structural health monitoring, featuring a configurable machine learning core and 16 independent configurable finite state machines that help edge devices save energy and power and reduce the amount of data transmitted to the cloud.

     In addition to advanced embedded features, the IIS2ICLX also reduces system power consumption and extends battery powered nodes' battery life. The sensor's inherent characteristics simplify integration with high-performance products while minimizing sensor calibration effort and cost.

 

     The IIS2ICLX inclinometer uses MEMS accelerometer technology, ±0.5 /±1 /±2 /±3g full scale option, and outputs data via I2C or SPI digital interface. The embedded compensation unit keeps the temperature drift within 0.075mg/°C, providing excellent measurement accuracy and repeatability even when the ambient temperature fluctuates dramatically. The ultra-low noise density of 15μg/√Hz enables high-resolution tilt monitoring and low-frequency vibration measurement of the low sound pressure required for structural health monitoring.

 

     The IIS2ICLX offers high stability and repeatability, high precision and high resolution, making it particularly suitable for industrial applications such as antenna pointing monitoring, pith leveling, forklift and construction machinery, levelling instruments, equipment installation monitoring, as well as solar panel installation and ray tracing, as well as Industry 4.0 applications such as robotics and autonomous vehicles (AGVs).

 

     In structural health monitoring, IIS2ICLX can accurately measure inclination and vibration, helping assessors analyze the structural integrity of tall buildings such as high-rises and infrastructure such as Bridges or tunnels. The affordable battery-powered IIS2ICLX-based MEMS tilt sensor enables safety monitoring of more structures than earlier structural health monitoring sensors using more expensive detection technologies.

 

     Many high-precision inclinometer is a single-axis measuring equipment, and the 2-axis IIS2ICLX accelerometer can detect the inclination Angle (pitch Angle and tilting Angle) between two axes and the horizontal plane, or combine the two axes into a single axis to measure the inclination Angle of the object and the horizontal plane in a single direction, repeatable measurement accuracy and resolution is higher, and can measure the inclination Angle within the range of ±180°. Digital output can save external digital-to-analog conversion or filter parts, simplify system design, and reduce bill of materials (BOM) costs.

 

     In order to simplify the IIS2ICLX development design and speed up the application development cycle, ST also provides a dedicated sensor calibration and tilt Angle real-time calculation software library, which belongs to the X-Cub-MEMS1 extension package of the STM32Cube.
