ST's STM32MP2 microprocessor with power management chip STPMIC25 is now available. Equipped with 16 output channels in a convenient package, the new product can power all the MPU's power rails and system peripherals, and only a few external filtering and stabilizing function components are required to complete the hardware design. The evaluation board STEVAL-PMIC25V1 is now available for developers to start developing applications immediately. Available in a 6.5mm x 6.5mm 56-pin WFQFN package with a thickness of just 0.9mm.
The new power management chip contains seven DC/DC buck converters and eight low voltage difference (LDO) regulators, with an additional LDO regulator providing reference voltage (Vref) for the system's DDR3 and DDR4 DRAM. Among the eight LDO regulators are a 3.3V channel dedicated regulator for powering USB high-speed and Type-C PHY ics, and universal LDO regulators that can be assigned to power circuits such as memory card interfaces and Ethernet ports.
The buck converter is optimized to power the MPU's CPU, core circuits, GPU, I/O, and analog power domains, with additional channels and universal auxiliary outputs to power DDR RAM. With fast transient response and low ripple design, the converter is suitable for a variety of operating conditions to meet the specific needs of the MPU power domain.
All converters use adaptive constant on-time control for high energy efficiency, spread spectrum frequency modulation and phase-shift switching, and advanced synchronization technology to minimize EMI interference. In addition, each converter has a high and low power operating mode, which can be controlled by the application software, allowing the host system to minimize the static current of the converter and improve energy saving. All buck converters and Ldos can be enabled and disabled independently.
