STMicroelectronics introduces a new 0.25°C precision temperature sensor for monitoring equipment

     0.25°C Typical measurement accuracy, low working current, low standby current, STMicroelectronics' new STTS22H temperature sensor improves temperature and heat flow monitoring for equipment such as asset trackers, container shipping recorders, HVAC HVAC systems, air humidifiers, refrigerators, building automation systems and smart consumer devices.

     The STTS22H is compatible with I2C and SMBus 3.0 buses and offers a variety of flexible operating modes, including a configurable output data rate (ODR) at a minimum rate of 1Hz and a power-saving single measurement mode, with interrupt pins supporting SMBus Alert Response Address (ARA). If the measured value exceeds the upper or lower temperature limit set by the user, the temperature sensor, as a slave device on the SMBus, will send a request signal to the application via the interrupt pin. The device address of the I²C/ SMBus can be set, and up to two STTS22H sensors can be connected to the same bus.

     The STTS22H sensor's power consumption is very low, consuming only 2.0µA of current in 1Hz ODR mode and only 1.75µA in a periodic single measurement, thus helping to extend the life of battery-powered devices. In standby mode with the serial port off, the STTS22H consumes only 0.5µA (typical) of current. The operating voltage range of 1.5-3.6V allows the sensor to use a variety of power sources (such as small lithium batteries).

     The STTS22H comes in a compact, thin 2.0mm x 2.0mm x 0.5mm 6-lead UDFN package. The sensor has a fast processing speed, a conversion time of 5ms, and provides 16-bit temperature data. The package features a metal block with extremely low thermal resistance to ensure rapid measurement of ambient temperature. The sensor is calibrated before leaving the factory, maintaining a typical accuracy of 0.25°C in the range of -10°C to 60°C without user calibration.
