STMicroelectronics introduces a new product line of STM32H7 for smart devices

     STMicroelectronics' latest STM32H7A3, STM32H7B3 and STM32H7B0 value series microcontrollers (MCUS) feature the processing performance, high storage capacity and energy savings of 280MHz Arm®Cortex®-M7 for designing the next generation of smart product devices.

     The new MCU power consumption is kept low, the entry-level product is in a cost-effective 64-pin QFP package, and the integration and real-time performance are improved to handle advanced features such as feature-rich user interfaces, natural language interactions, RF mesh networking, and artificial intelligence (AI).

     The new products enhance support for embedded graphics processing, for example, up to 1.4MB of RAM can support 24-bit color advanced user interfaces up to HVGA resolution without the use of external SRAM, which can reduce development costs.

     For applications that require more advanced communication connectivity technologies, the CPU performance and flash capacity of the new MCU can handle the evolving RF communication protocol. The 4.57mm x 4.37mm wafer-level chip-level package (WLCSP) option simplifies the integration of a microcontroller in a wireless module.

     For iot applications that focus on data security, the new product integrates the most advanced network security protection features, including secure boot/trust root and hardware password/hash algorithm accelerators. The new Instant Decryption (OTFDEC) feature extends protection to external serial memory, decrypting encrypted content in real time and protecting software code in external memory.

     The new MCU is equipped with an embedded security installation service that allows users to order a standard product from anywhere in the world and then hand over the encryption firmware to a partner for installation, without a breach at any stage. After product hardware verification and firmware security installation, the root of Trust mechanism will support all secure firmware services, including firmware field updates.

     Dual power domains allow designers to flexibly manage power supplies, and voltage regulation technology enables optimal energy efficiency in both run and stop modes. On-chip SMPS power supplies help reduce bill of materials (BOM) costs and power MCU internal circuits and external components. In stop mode, the SMPS power supply is powered on, retaining the entire contents of the RAM, and the chip operates at 32µA. The standby current is only 4µA.

     The high-performance product of the new STM32H7 has a rich digital communication interface and up to two eight-wire SPI external memory interfaces, as well as an RGB interface for XGA displays, Chrom-ART Accelerator for 2D graphics, and Chrom-GRC for optimized support for non-rectangular displays. And hardware JPEG codecs.

     The STM32 development ecosystem includes the STM32H7B3I-EVAL dedicated evaluation board, the STM32H7B3I-DK Discovery Kit, and the NUCLEO-H7A3ZI-Q Nucleo-144 development board. The STM32CubeH7 package includes several applications and examples and associated source code, including a graphics solution based on TouchGFX technology.
