
STMicroelectronics AIS2IH triaxial accelerometer brings higher measurement resolution, temperature stability and mechanical strength to non-safety automotive applications such as automotive anti-theft, telematics, infotainment, tilt/roll measurement, vehicle navigation, etc. It also paves the way for emerging, performance-demanding automotive, medical and industrial applications.
Leveraging ST's leadership in MEMS technology and automotive technology, AIS2IH offers market-leading reliability and high-performance motion measurement over a wide operating temperature range from -40ºC to +115ºC. In addition, the new accelerometer uses ultra-low power technology and the compact LGA-12 grid array package, and the price is extremely competitive in the market.
The new product has five different operating modes: one high performance mode (HPM) and four low power modes (LPM), which can be dynamically switched between each mode at any time to optimize measurement resolution and power consumption to meet specific application requirements.
The extended operating temperature range combined with improved performance and cost effectiveness enables AIS2IH to meet emerging automotive applications such as digital dashcam, driver monitoring, suspension height sensing, automatic door opening and closing. The new sensors are also suitable for Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices such as 5G smart antennas and sensitive medical instruments such as pacemakers, where components must be ultra-low-power, compact, high-resolution, and not at the expense of reliability.
STMicroelectronics' new automotive accelerometer allows users to select ranges, with full scale ranges of ±2g, ±4g, ±8g and ±16g, output data rate (ODR) can be set in the range of 1.6Hz-1.6kHz, and has a built-in configurable digital low-pass/high-pass filter. In high performance mode, the typical noise density is 90µg/√Hz and the operating current is 3V 110μA. In 1.6Hz low power mode, the operating current is 0.67μA at 3V. Built-in 32-stage FIFO and motion/activity detection help to tightly control system-level power consumption.
