STMicroelectronics introduces the TSC1641 precision digital current, voltage and power monitor chip with a high-precision input channel and support for the MIPI I3C advanced bus interface. The TSC1641 helps optimize power utilization and reliability in applications such as industrial battery packs, power inverters, DC power supplies, data center and telecommunications equipment, and power tools. The monitoring chip simultaneously monitors the DC current voltage through a dual-channel 16-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and calculates the power inside the chip. Synchronous measurement of current and voltage ensures accurate power calculation.
Communicating with the main controller through the I2C and SMBus and MIPI I3C interfaces, the chip can also report the monitoring results and send an alarm signal when the current, voltage, power and temperature are too high or too low to prevent the circuit from burning out. The chip also provides an alarm indicating pin and integrates a temperature monitoring sensor to save on external components.
With a voltage range of up to 60V, the TSC1641 can be used in a variety of industrial environments. Current monitoring with an external shunt resistor provides flexibility for high side, low side and bidirectional measurements. Power consumption in off mode is only 50nA, ensuring minimal impact on overall system power consumption.
The MIPI I3C interface allows designers to connect the TSC1641 directly to advanced microcontrollers, such as the STM32H5 series from ST, providing auxiliary functions for system monitoring. The interface supports data rates up to 12.5MHz and does not require pull-up resistors, which helps reduce bill of material costs and save board subspace.
The TSC1641 has a temperature rating ranging from -40°C to 125°C and is now in production. The 3.0mm x 3.0mm DFN10 plastic package is now available for order.
Customers can begin exploring the TSC1641 immediately with the STEVAL-DIGAFEV1 evaluation board, which can now be purchased on ST's official website st.com. The board can be used alone or with the NUCLEO-H503RB STM32 microcontroller development board. The NUCLEO-H503RB board has the accompanying graphical user interface (STSW-DIGAFEV1GUI) software and sample firmware (STSW-DIGAFEV1FW) for configuring the TSC1641, supporting MIPI I3C communication.
