STMicroelectronics introduces inertial modules and ASIL B certified software library for automobiles

     STMicroelectronics' ASM330LHB vehicle gauge MEMS inertial sensor module is highly accurate, suitable for a variety of automotive system functions, and is equipped with dedicated software to solve the design challenges of ASIL Class B functional safety applications. The ASM330LHB is AEC-Q100 compliant and comes in a 2.5mm x 3.0mm 14-pin VFLGA package.

     The module consists of a three-axis digital accelerometer and a three-axis digital gyroscope, with a vehicle gauge level design, providing a six-channel synchronous output, and excellent inertial measurement accuracy to improve the positioning accuracy of the vehicle in the relevant environment. The module supports ADAS Advanced Driver assistance systems or Connected to the Vehicle (V2X) communications, helping to maintain stable performance for critical perception systems such as radar, LiDAR, and vision cameras to assist Level L2+ semi-autonomous driving applications. In addition, the module can be used for various body control functions.

     With an integrated software engine, the ASM330LHB meets the growing demand for automotive systems that meet Level B safety integrity requirements. A fail-safe redundancy mechanism is designed with two ASM330LHB sensor modules to quickly recover environmentally aware data for driver assistance systems such as lane keeping, emergency braking, cruise assist, and semi-autonomous driving. The ASIL Level B software library was developed in accordance with the automotive functional safety standard ISO 26262 and has been tested and certified by TUV SUD, an independent third-party certification body. By implementing dedicated safety mechanisms, including data integrity and measurement accuracy, the software library ensures that automotive systems comply with ASIL B standards.

     In addition to making driving safer, the ASM330LHB has a very high degree of application flexibility, allowing users to experience a smarter lifestyle, for example, embedded intelligence helps to add new car services, for example, alerting the status of the car when the driver leaves the car. In addition, monitoring multiple thresholds simultaneously allows the internal finite state machine (FSM) to always be in optimal conditions to detect vehicle motion or rest, vibration or instability.

     The modular accelerometers and gyroscopes have excellent time zero drift and temperature zero drift stability, extremely low noise, and overall zero bias instability up to 3°/ hour. The ASM330LHB has an extended nominal temperature range of -40°C to 105°C and multiple operating modes, enabling designers to optimize data update rates and power consumption.
