STMicroelectronics introduces new HDMI protection ics with enhanced performance to further enhance the HDTV visual experience

     STMicroelectronics introduces a new single-chip HDMI signal-conditioning and protection IC, ready to attack the 4K UHD TV market with the fastest HDTV data rates today. In order to ensure the integrity of the ultra-high definition signal and minimize the dependence on the quality of the HDMI cable, all Display Data channels (DDC) of the new HDMI2C1 series are equipped with active pull-up functions.

     In addition, the integrated ESD protection circuit function inside the chip can improve the transmission performance of 10GHz bandwidth, and achieve the transmission of high-speed 4K signals without losing the premise of authenticity. On the other hand, the latest HDMI chips on the market use ESD sensitive deep nanomedicine manufacturing processes, and the HDMI2C1's low clamping voltage (10V) and fast response time (30ns) can effectively suppress surge transients.

     Compared with discrete ESD protection devices, the HDMI2C1 chip can save 80% of printed circuit board space, while also speeding up the time to market of consumer electronics products such as ultra-high-definition set-top boxes and Blu-ray DVD players with high elimination rates. In addition, the new chip has optimized its pin arrangement especially for single - or dual-layer economical printed circuit boards.

     Other features of the HDMI2C1 series include 5V low voltage drop (LDO) regulators that prevent short circuits and protect against overheating, HDMI DDC with backdrive protection, Consumer Electronic Control (CEC), and hot swap detection (HPD) Hot-Plug Detect level shifter for functions such as lines. There are four products in the new series, including the HDMI2C1-6C1, which can be used with an external ESD protector or common mode filter (ST's ECMF™ family) on the HDMI data cable, thereby increasing design flexibility.
