STMicroelectronics introduces new ultra-thin rectifier tubes to reduce the size, weight and energy consumption of automotive and outdoor equipment

     STMicroelectronics introduces a new ultra-thin, lightweight automotive grade high voltage ultra-high speed rectifier that will help automotive system designers minimize the size of electronic control modules, power converters and motor drivers, thereby improving the space utilization of automotive electronic systems.

     The new rectifier tube comes in a SMBFlat package that weighs just 50mg and is 1mm thick, nearly 60% thinner than its closest competitor, the Car 2.4mm thick SMB package. The slim appearance helps designers develop Electronic Control Units (ECUs) that are lighter and fit in small Spaces in cars. The wo-lead surface-mount SMBFlat package is compatible with standard SMB devices and facilitates the use of new rectifier tubes on existing printed circuit boards.

     The operating temperature range of -40°C to 175°C makes ST's SMBFlat rectifier particularly suitable for automotive applications and applications operating in harsh environments, such as mobile communication base stations and outdoor lighting.

     To date, ST has introduced a total of 10 ultra-high speed rectifier products with current ratings from 1A to 3A and repetitive peak reverse voltage ratings from 600V to 1200V. The product family is divided into two series L and R, L series of low forward voltage (VF, forward voltage) for the need for low on-state loss design; The R series has a shorter reverse-recovery time (trr). Fast reverse recovery minimizes switching losses, improves efficiency of high-frequency switching operation, and uses smaller external inductors and capacitors.
