STMicroelectronics introduces precision high-voltage bidirectional current detection amplifiers for increased robustness and energy efficiency

     STMicroelectronics has introduced three high-precision, high-voltage bidirectional current detection amplifiers that add convenient turn-off pins to maximize power savings. The precision of the TSC2010, TSC2011, and TSC2012 amplifiers allows designers to select smaller sensitive resistance values to minimize power consumption. At 25°C, offset voltage is in the ±200µV range, temperature drift is less than 5µV /°C, and gain accuracy is within 0.3%, enabling the device to detect voltage drops as low as 10mV at full scale, providing consistent and trusted measurements.

     With a gain variation of 20V/V for the TSC2010, 60V/V for the TSC2011, and 100V/V for the TSC2012, the TSC2010 provides the flexibility to build accurate current measurement, overcurrent protection, current monitoring, and current feedback circuits for industrial and automotive systems. Target applications include data acquisition, motor control, solenoid valve control, instrumentation, test and measurement, and process control.

     The bidirectional detection feature of the three new amplifiers allows the positive and negative currents to be measured with a single current detection circuit, helping designers reduce bill of material costs. The new product is also available in both high and low side connection configurations, allowing high and low sides to share the same type of device, thereby simplifying inventory management.

     The power supply voltage of the three new products is in the range of 2.7V-5.5V, which further improves the application flexibility. The wide input voltage tolerance allows the new product to detect common-mode voltage currents from -20V to 70V at any supply voltage. The new product has a high gain-bandwidth product and a fast voltage swing rate (the two parameters of the TSC2010 are 820kHz and 7.5V/µs, respectively), ensuring high measurement accuracy and fast response.

     The integrated EMI filter and ESD protection of 2kV HBM(human body model) in the three new products ensure strong disturbance resistance and can operate in the industrial temperature range of -40°C to 125°C. The three new products are also accompanied by the STEVAL-AETKT1V2 evaluation board, which helps designers quickly start development projects using any of the devices and accelerate time to market. The TSC2010, TSC2011 and TSC2012 are currently available in Mini-SO8 and SO8 packages.
