STMicroelectronics introduces synchronous rectifier DC/DC converters for smart industrial applications

     STMicroelectronics introduces the L6983 38V/3A synchronous rectifier DC/DC converter, which can maintain high energy efficiency at any load, up to 95% energy efficiency, and on-chip integrated synchronous rectifier MOSFET transistors can save external components and simplify the design process.

     The L6983 converter has an extremely low static current of only 17µA and is available in low current (L6983C) and low noise (L6983N) models. The L6983C enters jump mode when the load current is below 0.6A, while the L6983N is suitable for noise sensitive applications and maintains PWM (pulse width modulation) mode at all loads to minimize electromagnetic interference.

     With input voltages ranging from 3.5V to 38V, the L6983 converter is an efficient and flexible industrial power solution for 12V and 24V industrial bus power systems, battery powered devices, distributed smart nodes such as smart building controllers, and alway working devices such as smart sensors. The L6983 is available in 3.3V, 5V and adjustable output voltage models.

     All L6983 products have a power good output pin for setting the power on/power off sequence, enabling logic circuits, or as a fault indicator. In addition, integrated feedback loop compensation, overvoltage protection, and soft start circuits simplify the design of complete power systems. Switching frequencies can be set from 200kHz to 2.2MHz, and spread spectrum operation and external frequency synchronization help simplify EMC compatibility designs.
