STMicroelectronics introduces the 1050V MOSFET VIPer converter with the highest breakdown voltage on the market

     STMicroelectronics VIPer26K releases a high-voltage power converter that integrates a 1050V avalanch-resistant N-channel power MOSFET to provide the offline power supply with the advantages of wide voltage input and simple design. In SO-16N package.

     With extremely high voltage ratings, the VIPer26K MOSFETs achieve similar voltage handling capabilities without the need for traditional vertically stacked FETs and associated passive components, with the possibility of smaller external buffer elements. The converter has built-in leakage limit current protection, and the MOSFET includes a senseFET pin for overtemperature protection.

     With a single-chip integrated high-voltage start circuit, internal error amplifier and current-flow PWM controller, the VIPER26K supports all common switching power topologies, including primary or secondary regulated isolated flyback converters, resistance feedback non-isolated flyback converters, buck converters and buck-boost converters.

     The highest MOSFET breakdown voltage on the market, combined with a complete set of features integrated on-chip, requires minimal external circuitry, which enables designers to save bill of material costs and board space while improving the reliability of power supplies, such as power supplies for single-phase and three-phase smart meters, three-phase industrial systems, air conditioning and LED lighting.

     The new product also has many other advantages, for example, the internal fixed switching frequency of 60kHz, jitter ±4kHz, combined with the gate current control function during MOSFET on and off, can minimize switching noise radiation. High conversion efficiency and no-load power consumption below 30mW help applications achieve high energy efficiency levels and stringent eco-design requirements.
