STMicroelectronics introduces the BlueNRG-2N Bluetooth 5.0 certified network processor

     STMicroelectronics introduces the BlueNRG-2N Bluetooth 5.0 certified Network processor, which reduces power consumption, supports the latest Bluetooth features, improves data throughput, and enhances privacy security.

     The BlueNRG-2N network coprocessor is pre-installed with the Bluetooth communication protocol and can connect to the main controller to establish a Bluetooth connection. The co-processor not only simplifies product manufacturing, but also allows manufacturers to individually adjust the performance, functionality, and cost of the main system. As a result, designers of products such as smart medical wearables, PC peripherals, remote controls, lamps, industrial and home automation can optimize their MCU choices to meet the requirements of a specific product model.

     The BlueNRG-2N's latest Bluetooth enhancements include support for data length extensions, which increase firmware over-the-air update (OTA) speeds by 2.5 times and increase application-level data transfer speeds to 700kbit/s. In addition, BlueNRG-2N supports Bluetooth LE Privacy 1.2, which allows frequent address changes without the intervention of the main processor to prevent devices from being tracked unnecessarily, with minimal impact on system power consumption.

     The BlueNRG-2N comes pre-loaded with a digitally signed Bluetooth LE protocol stack, saving product manufacturing costs while maintaining over-the-air upgrade (OTA) flexibility. The built-in image validation technology always checks the downloaded protocol stack and only allows digitally signed firmware image files to run, enhancing network security.

     Compared to previous generations of BlueNRG products, the new generation of products has lower power consumption, lower transmit and receive currents, and only 900nA operating current when the BLE protocol stack is running in shutdown mode. Maintain strong and reliable RF performance while reducing power consumption, RF output power can be set up to + 8dBm, and link budget up to 96dB.

     The BluENRG-2N is the latest member of ST's BlueNRG Bluetooth Low Energy chip family to meet the requirements of a variety of wireless system design methods, and the main product features are the same as the BluENRG-2 Bluetooth 5.0 certified System-on-chip (SoC). The system chip also has a programmable Arm® Cortex-M0 microcontroller, so the same device can run major applications and Bluetooth communication protocols. Developers using BlueNRG chips can take advantage of the powerful and user-friendly STM32 * Online Development environment (ODE), including the STM32CubeMX GUI plug-in, to start their development projects.

     As part of the BlueNRG family of private network coprocessors, BluenRG-2N is now in volume production and has been included in ST's 10-year product delivery plan. BlueNRG-234N comes in a 2.66mm x 2.56mm WLCSP34 chip package. The BlueNRG-232N comes in a 5mm x 5mm QFN32 package.
