STMicroelectronics releases free multifunctional STM32 development tools

STMicroelectronics continues its drive to improve the ease of use of the feature-rich and energy-efficient STM32 family of microcontrollers by adding a free, versatile STM32 development tool to the STM32Cube software ecosystem: the STM32CubeIDE.

Designed to work as well as commercial integrated development environment (IDE) tools, the STM32CubeIDE draws on the technology strengths of Atollic, an embedded development tool vendor acquired by ST in 2017. With industry-standard open license terms, the IDE adds STM32-specific features to simplify and accelerate STM32-based embedded design, including the powerful STM32CubeMX microcontroller configuration and project management tools.

The STM32Cube ecosystem is very popular among developers, and STM32CubeMX is currently downloaded more than 250,000 times a year. Now, by integrating the STM32CubeMX with the STM32CubeIDE, ST has created a more powerful development environment that is far superior to similar tool offerings from its competitors. The STM32Cube's complete ecosystem also includes the STM32CubeProgrammer's code writer and the STM32CubeMonitor family of code runtime monitors, as well as numerous separate MCU firmware packages.
