Samsung OmniVision launches its first 64 megapixel CIS sensor after SONY

     TSR, a market research firm, expects 127m image sensors with 64 megapixel resolutions and above to be shipped to smartphone makers in 2020. It can be seen that the camera pixels of smart phones will continue to improve, and the high pixel of 64 million will gradually become popular. OmniVision announced its first 64 megapixel 0.8 micron image sensor, the OV64C, not long after it unveiled the 48 megapixel CMOS OV48C during CES 2020 this year.

     The sensor uses OmniVision's PureCel Plus chip stacking technology and electronic image stabilization (EIS) technology to provide the phone with a 4-in-1 hardware pixel restoration algorithm for full-resolution Bayer output, digital crop zoom, and a CPHY interface with fewer pins but greater throughput.

     The OV64C integrates a 4-in-1 on-chip color filter array and hardware pixel restoration algorithm to provide 64 megapixel Bayer output. In low light, the sensor can output 16 megapixel images with four times the sensitivity by combining adjacent pixels, achieve 1.6 micron equivalent performance in preview and still image capture, and enable 2x digital cropping zoom with 16 megapixel resolution and fast mode switching.

     OmniVision says OV64C video output supports: 64 megapixels at 15 frames per second (fps); 30 fps 8K video; 4 in 1 pixel combined 30 fps 16 million pixels; 60 fps 4K video and 30 fps 4K video with electronic image stabilization support. In addition, the OV64C supports 3-exposure interlaced HDR in up to 16 megapixel video mode.

     Previously reported that OmniVision global vice president Wu Xiaodong said in an interview with the media to shorten the gap with international manufacturers as soon as possible, he said before the gap between Haowei and (SONY Samsung) in about a year, last year was half a year behind, this year's goal is to be able to even, next year, that is, 2021 will be able to achieve the lead.
