Samsung has unveiled the world's smallest 20-megapixel image sensor

     Samsung has officially launched the ISOCELL Slim series image sensor 3T2 through its official website, which Samsung calls the world's smallest 20-megapixel image sensor. According to Samsung, the ISOCELL Slim 3T2 is the industry's smallest 1/3.4-inch (about 5.1 mm diagonally) image sensor, with 20 million effective 0.8μm pixels, and uses Samsung's ISOCELL Plus technology to provide high color fidelity and guaranteed photosensitivity. Support Tetracell technology to improve the brightness and clarity of the picture.

     It is worth noting that Samsung said that this sensor is designed to cater to the current popular perforated screen mobile phone trend, pushing the miniaturization of the front camera. In addition, Samsung uses Tetracell technology to achieve four-in-one pixels, which can achieve 5 million pixels of 1.6μm, while improving the low-light shooting ability of this sensor.

     In 2017, Samsung ISOCELL image sensor division reorganized and launched four series of image sensors, including ISOCELL Bright (bright), ISOCELL Fast (fast), ISOCELL Slim (thin) and ISOCELL Dual (dual).

     This New product 3T2 belongs to ISOCELL Slim, with a total of 20 million pixels, a unit pixel area of only 0.8μm, and the entire CMOS size of only 1/3.4 inch (that is, the CMOS diagonal length of 5.1mm), which once again set an industry record, so Samsung is proud to say that "New Ultra-Slim" sensor, The overall camera module size can be significantly reduced, resulting in a slimmer phone.

     However, the CMOS size is only 1/3.4 inch, which seems to contradict the 1/2 inch "bottom large level crushing" of the ISOCELL GM1 introduced on the Red Rice Note 7 earlier, isn't it said that the larger the pixel, the better? Other GM1 at least support pixel 4-in-1 to improve the picture fine, brightness.

     While the ISOCELL Slim 3T2 can also guarantee higher color fidelity with less noise, the deep DTI can reduce color crosstalk and expand the full capacity to accommodate more light information. Tetracell technology improves imaging quality in low-light environments by combining four adjacent pixels to improve light sensitivity.
