Samsung introduces the ISOCELL Vizion 33D ToF sensor with cutting-edge 3D depth sensing capabilities

     Samsung has announced the new ISOCELL Vizion 33D, a ToF (Time of Flight) sensor that delivers best-in-class photography and AR/VR experiences. Based on the time it takes for an infrared light signal to travel to and from an object, the sensor allows a smartphone to detect depth information in real time. Vizion 33D sensors can be used for 3D scanning, video bokeh effects, AR games and more.

     With its depth sensing capabilities, the ISOCELL Vizion 33D helps the main camera with precise and fast autofocus, replacing laser sensors. With a low power consumption of just 200 milliwatts, this feature adds life to your photos. Equipped with ISOCELL's cutting-edge pixel architecture, the ISOCELL Vizion 33D offers increased power efficiency, enabling 3D applications to be delivered 24/7. 33D's infrared illuminators and ToF sensors both have a combined power consumption of under 400 milliwatts, so users can enjoy powerful 3D features such as AR gaming and video bokeh throughout the day.

     As a high-resolution VGA ToF solution, the ISOCELL Vizion 33D produces depth images with unmatched precision. In both indoor and outdoor conditions, the sensor can detect object depths up to 5 meters with high accuracy. The deep groove isolation technology (DTI) maximizes the isolation between pixels to reduce cross talk, while the backscatter technology (BST) improves the quantum efficiency of the sensor.

     To enable accurate depth measurements of fast-moving objects, the ISOCELL Vizion 33D features a 4-tap demodulation system that supports frame rates up to 120fps. Each pixel in the sensor can receive four phase signals simultaneously (0°, 90°, 180°, and 270°), which means it takes only one frame to generate a depth image. The next generation of Samsung Galaxy flagship devices may be equipped with this new ISOCELL Vizion 33D sensor for better photography and AR/VR experiences.
