Semtech, a leading provider of analog and mixed-signal semiconductor products and advanced algorithms, announced the introduction of a new LoRa Smart Home device (LLCC68d), expanding LoRa's market from industry-class low power wide area networks (LPWAN) to smart home, community and consumer applications. The transceiver provides low power consumption and wide coverage for Internet of Things (IoT) devices in indoor and adjacent areas to connect sensors and actuators for applications such as security, environmental monitoring and convenience.
"With its simple and flexible network architecture, Semtech's LoRa devices offer a unique opportunity for consumers to accelerate the adoption of smart home connectivity solutions. As an end-to-end solution, or as a complement to Wi-Fi, LoRa expands smart home solutions by providing connectivity to low-cost and battery-powered end-node devices both indoors and outdoors." Said Marc Pegulu, vice president of the Internet of Things business in Semtech's wireless and Sensing Products business unit. "This new LoRa smart home chip is compatible with the LoRaWAN protocol for low-latency smart home applications such as smart locks and lighting, enables low-cost network expansion, and provides a bridge for many Lorawan-based B2B and B2C solutions in today's iot market."
The new transceiver will target battery-powered sensors that can operate for years. It has a 600nA sleep current and a 4.6mA working receive current power class. With its support for LoRa modulation mode for low-power local area network (LAN) use cases, as well as (G)FSK modulation for traditional use cases, the device is compatible with existing LoRaWAN networks and can also support proprietary communication protocols.
The RF chip is suitable for systems that comply with radio regulatory regulations, including but not limited to ETSI EN 300 220, FCC CFR 47 Part 15, Chinese regulatory requirements, and Japanese ARIB T-108. Its continuous frequency coverage from 150 MHz to 960 MHz supports all major sub-GHz license-free (ISM) bands worldwide.
