Sensirion introduces a new mass flow meter

     Sensirion, a leading manufacturer of sensors for the measurement and control of flow and environmental parameters, will introduce a new mass flowmeter, the SFM4300. With its newly developed flow path geometry, the sensor is able to accurately measure oxygen (O2) and laughing gas (N2O) in addition to air for the first time. This small sensor is therefore ideal for measuring gas mixtures in the field of medical technology.

     Compared to the previous SFM4100, the SFM4300 has a higher sensitivity and can measure mass flow very accurately, even at low flow rates. The SFM4300 is small and pressure-resistant, measures mass flow up to 20 slm (air, O2 and N2O), and offers a variety of mechanical connections (bottom mounted, Legris and O-rings). Developed for integration into anesthesia devices in other applications, the sensor unit has an I²C interface and provides a fully calibrated and temperature-compensated output signal.

     Dr DanielTrautlein, lead product manager, said: "The performance of the SFM4300 makes it an ideal solution for controlling gas mixtures in the medical technology sector. It enables very precise concentration mixing even at low flow rates." Trautlein says the sensor will be used primarily in anesthesia devices, usually integrated directly into the device. To ensure patient safety, the flow sensors in the machine need to be stable and reliable throughout the life of the device to make accurate, repeatable measurements. Therefore, when it comes to safety and reliability, the SFM4300 is the first choice. Customers also benefit from an extended measuring range of up to 20 slm.
