Silicon Labs has introduced the next generation Wireless Gecko platform, Series 2

     Silicon Labs has introduced the next generation Wireless Gecko platform, Series 2, designed to make Internet of Things (IoT) products more powerful, efficient and reliable. Building on Wireless Gecko's portfolio of leading RF and multi-protocol capabilities, the Series 2 provides the industry's broadest and most scalable iot connectivity platform. Initial Series 2 products include small SoC devices with dedicated security cores and on-chip radios that provide 2.5 times more wireless coverage than competing solutions.

 

     Iot developers often face trade-offs in product design such as wireless coverage, power consumption, size, security, and cost. The Series 2 Wireless Connectivity portfolio simplifies iot product design with highly integrated SoC options and reusable software, making RF communications more reliable and energy efficient. Series 2 helps developers optimize system cost and performance for a variety of smart home, commercial, and industrial iot applications.

 

     Matt Johnson, senior vice president and general manager of iot Products at Silicon Labs, said: "With the increasing use and variety of iot devices, developers are looking for flexible connectivity solutions that can help them bring differentiated products to market quickly, while reducing cost and design complexity. Series 2 products improve multiple design elements, including wireless performance, software reuse, RF communication reliability, and enhanced security to accelerate iot development, deployment, and adoption."

 

     The first products of Silicon Labs Series 2 include EFR32MG21 SoCs for multi-protocol, Zigbee®, Thread, and Bluetooth® mesh networks, and EFR32BG21 SOCs for Bluetooth Low Energy and Bluetooth mesh networks. These SOCs are ideal solutions for line-powered iot products such as gateways, hubs, lighting, voice assistants and smart meters.
