Silicon Mitus has designed a highly efficient switched capacitor charge pump for fast charging applications

     Silicon Mitus announced the introduction of SM5450, a switched capacitor fast charging pump. The DC-DC converter of the SM5450 is highly optimized to meet the needs of emerging fast charging applications in the mobile market, provide higher conversion efficiency, shorten the charging time of the battery, and better manage the heat dissipation in the charging cycle of the device. It is a fast charging chip specially designed for smartphones, tablets and any other battery powered consumer devices.

     The SM5450 integrates the company's most efficient converter and the highest output charger current to date. Its peak efficiency can reach 97.3%, the maximum output current is 6A, and it supports 25W charging power. It also integrates 12 bit ADC to measure input/output voltage, current and chip temperature. In addition, the serial I2C interface and numerous battery protection schemes (overvoltage protection, overcurrent protection, thermal shutdown, voltage and current regulation) help minimize heat dissipation while doubling the power, thus reducing the design cost of research and development. It also contains the SCP protocol for fast charging communication between the charging head and the mobile phone. The latest version can provide efficient, safe and economical solutions for fast charging of consumer applications.
