Maxim MAX20079 36V buck converter is a small, vehicle-level synchronous buck converter with integrated high-side and low-side switches. Maxim MAX20079 36V step-down converter is a small, automotive grade synchronous step-down converter with integrated high side and low side switches. The device uses only 3.5μA static current at no load, with input voltage ranging from +3V to +36V and output power up to 3.5A. The MAX20079 provides an accurate output voltage of ±2% in the normal operating input range of +6V to +18V.

The converter has a minimum on-time capability of 65ns, enabling a large input-output conversion ratio. Voltage quality can be monitored by observing the PGOOD signal. The MAX20079 can operate at 99% duty cycle, making it ideal for automotive and industrial applications. The IC provides standard 3.3V and 5V fixed output voltages.

In addition, Maxim Integrated MAX20079 can configure output voltages from 3V to 12V using an external resistance voltage divider. The frequency is fixed internally at 2.1MHz, which allows for small external components, reduces output ripple, and guarantees no AM interference. A 400kHz option is also available to provide minimum switching loss and highest efficiency.

The MAX20079 automatically enters skip mode at light load and has an ultra-low static current of 3.5μA at no load. It provides pin spread spectrum frequency modulation designed to minimize emi radiation emission due to the modulated frequency. The MAX20079 comes in a 4mm x 4mm 20-pin SW-TQFN package that uses very few external components. The result of the smart packaging layout is an extremely low noise solution with superior EMI performance.
