Stmicroelectronics Next generation NFC chip simplifies digital car key system authentication

     Stmicroelectronics has launched a new generation of vehicle specification NFC reader IC, targeting the Internet of Vehicles Alliance (CCC) digital key, with improved features to improve interactive performance and simplify product certification. The ST25R3920B is installed in the door and center console locations for keyless entry and engine start, as well as Qi wireless charging control and smartphone pairing. The chip is equipped with STMicro's unique Heartbeat protection algorithm to protect NFC cards in Wireless Charging Alliance (WPC) applications, distinguishing between NFC cards and mobile card emulation modes, ensuring that the phone is charged while protecting the card.

 

     New features include improved Active Waveform Shaping (AWS), which simplifies product certification according to the latest NFC Forum Certification Standard Version 13 (CR13), as well as facilitating interoperability between CCC digital key solutions for vehicles and smartphones. AWS helps readers eliminate undershoot and overshoot voltages in the received signal by adjusting parameters, thus avoiding repeated rematching of antennas during development. The ST25R3920B also supports automatic antenna tuning and automatic low-power wake-up.

 

     The output power of ST25R3920B is up to 1.6W, and the receiving sensitivity is first-class of the same kind. Because the space of the installation position (door handle) is limited, the antenna of small size must be used. The high power and high sensitivity can extend the interaction distance to the maximum. The output power can be dynamically adjusted to conform to the upper and lower limits specified in the NFC Forum and EMVCo specifications.

 

     In addition, the ST25R3920B has the highest resistance to external interference on the market by integrating a highly noise resistant input structure with stmicroelectronics' unique noise suppression receiver (NSR). It also passes the most stringent injection noise testing available from automotive manufacturers to ensure the application's safety in harsh conditions.
