Stmicroelectronics automotive navigation and dead reckoning module

     To support the automotive navigation and positioning market with advanced GNSS chipsets and modules, stmicroelectronics has introduced TESEO-VIC3DA, the newest member of the Teseo module family.

     Teseo-vic3da integrates STMICRO's high performance automotive satellite positioning chip Teseo III GNSS[1] IC with automotive 6-axis MEMS inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and dead calculations software to create a navigation module that meets automotive standards with ease of development and design.

     Leveraging STMICRO's in-house chip manufacturing and software development capabilities, Teseo-VIC3DA modules power competitively priced in-vehicle navigation, fleet management and insurance monitoring applications.

     At the heart of this positioning system, the automotive grade Teseo III GNSS IC has been proven in high-end systems and is highly regarded for its accuracy and high energy efficiency. Teseo III is capable of sensing multiple navigation satellite constellations and can simultaneously receive signals from GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, Beidou and QZSS constellations, providing strong positioning capabilities.

     The ST 6-axis automotive grade MEMS IC provides motion tracking with ultra-high resolution for advanced vehicle navigation and telematics applications.By integrating STmicro's Teseo III, IMU, and dead calculation algorithms, TESEO-VIC3DA's positioning accuracy is extremely high, even in harsh environments, such as under tunnels or Bridges or multi-storey highways, covered areas such as underground parking lots, and urban canyons between tall buildings. It also ensures that the navigation system is accurate.

     The Teseo-VIC3DA module has an operating voltage of 3.3V, which helps to simplify the system integration. The power consumption in standby mode is only 17μA, which can greatly reduce the power requirements of the vehicle. The new module includes a highly accurate integrated temperature compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) with a positioning accuracy of 1.5m CEP in a typical automotive use case [2]. In addition, dedicated real time clock (RTC) oscillators help ensure fast first location times (TTFF).

     Teseo-VIC3DA comes with firmware pre-installed in the built-in flash memory, and modules can be updated with the free TESEO-SUITE software if necessary. The Teseo-VIC3DA has a dead-reckoning positioning rate of up to 30Hz and extremely low latency, which can reduce the jitter of the UART channel. Teseo-VIC3DA works autonomously with or without mileage information.

     Stmicro has tested and certified Teseo-VIC3DA in accordance with the European Radio Equipment Directive (RED), applicable ETSI standards and EN safety standards, helping customers obtain mandatory product-level approval quickly and efficiently. An independent USB power evaluation platform, EVB-VIC3DA, can accelerate product development based on new modules.
