     Stmicroelectronics' FingerTip FTG2-SLP touchscreen controller enables advanced capabilities to support the latest active Matrix Organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) displays, promising to make smartphones more power-efficient and last longer.

 

     Low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) AMOLED displays and similar proprietary displays dynamically control the display refresh rate based on screen usage, with a slower refresh rate when running less demanding applications and a higher refresh rate when performing playback tasks such as gaming and streaming media. In the process, Display drives minimize power consumption and ensure an excellent user experience.

 

     Stmicroelectronics' FingerTip FTG2-SLP touchscreen controller supports both synchronous and asynchronous display working modes, allowing Oems to maintain a seamless interactive experience even as refresh rates change dynamically. The controller is also ideal for smartphones with flexible AMOLED displays, which integrate the touch sensing panel directly onto the OLED layer, making the phone very thin.

 

     Powered by an Arm Cortex-M4 kernel, the FingerTip FTG2-SLP integrates high-capacity flash memory to enable flexible, advanced touch functions. In addition, stmicroelectronics proprietary hardware and firmware as well as special sleep modes ensure very low power consumption on the chip, helping to further maximize battery life.

 

     The analog front end (AFE) of the chip utilizes a differential architecture and multiple scanning methods to ensure error-free touch detection. The internal design also ensures that the controller's inherent noise is very low, achieving a high signal-to-noise ratio. Even at the highest refresh rate, a 480Hz reporting rate captures each touch event.
