Super Micro Computer launches Outdoor edge System for 5G RAN, AI inference and intelligent edge applications

     Super Micro Computer will launch the market's first outdoor edge system for 5G RAN, AI inference, and intelligent edge applications with IP65 protection level servers. The product will be powered by Intel Xeon D processors and second-generation Intel Xeon scalable processors, offering a variety of configuration options. The new system is suitable for harsh outdoor environments and supports the industry trend toward open source software and distributed hardware.

     Charles Liang, President and Chief Executive Officer of Super Micro Computer, said: "Super Micro Computer's highly configurable SuperServers are designed for extreme outdoor applications, providing data center and telecom operators with unprecedented new deployment options that are highly competitive.      In addition to CPU options, Super Micro Computer's new system is equipped with the latest FPGA and GPU acceleration capabilities, with three PCI-E slots with expanded capabilities. These capabilities are critical for applications such as optimizing real-time edge AI interfaces with GPU adapter cards and supporting 5G RAN software and open source standard point-to-point communications with FPGA accelerator cards. In addition, the hardened server also has SSD, M.2 and EDSFF storage capabilities to locally publish cached media content and store video surveillance and other sensitive data.

     Based on the Building Block Solutions of Super Micro Computer, 5G systems can be configured with a variety of processor and memory combinations to provide customized solutions that extend the remote management capabilities of the data center to the intelligent edge. Super Micro Computer has extensive experience in common virtualization and container optimization software such as Kubernetes, leveraging software interactions and offering a wide range of NGC-Ready for Edge certified servers to extend AI capabilities to both public and private networks.

     Following the industry trend, Super Micro Computer continues to shift to non-proprietary hardware platforms and gradually adopts standardized system interfaces. As a member of the O-RAN Alliance, SuperMicro also supports the alliance's new plan to promote cloud-native open 5G RAN network architecture to ensure network upgrades from 4G to 5G. Since joining the O-RAN alliance, Super Micro Computer has worked with several leading telecom operators and network stack vendors to develop reference solutions. These solutions are small, can be mounted on a vertical pole, do not take up space, and facilitate the rapid deployment of adaptive 5G networks.

     The servers used by Super Micro Computer are rugged and built on a comprehensive 5G and edge computing portfolio, including the E403-9P-FN2T and 1019P-FHN2T systems launched in 2019. It will complement the company's high-performance products for data centers, such as the multi-node BigTwin and the high-density SuperBlade and MicroBlade that support the core of a virtualized 5G network.
