Supercapacitors can reliably withstand challenging mechanical and electrical conditions

KYOCERA AVX has released its first automotive-qualified supercapacitors, also known as cylindrical, electrochemical, double-layer capacitors. The five new automotive-qualified SCC Series supercapacitors are tested and qualified to the stringent AEC-Q200 standard, demonstrating their ability to reliably withstand test conditions created to replicate challenging mechanical and electrical conditions typical in automotive applications.

   Kyocera AVX has released its first automotive compliant supercapacitor, also known as a cylindrical, electrochemical, double-layer capacitor. Five new automotive compliant SCC series ultracapacitors were tested and met the stringent AEC-Q200 standards, demonstrating that they can reliably withstand test conditions created to replicate the challenging mechanical and electrical conditions typical of automotive applications.

"We launched our first SCC family of supercapacitors in October 2016, and over the years they have proven to deliver high quality, high reliability performance, optimal pulse power handling characteristics, and impressive cost performance in industrial and consumer applications worldwide. We are therefore very pleased to be able to offer our automotive customers a solution with the same outstanding features." Applications for supercapacitors include electro-mechanical latching, electronic recording, emergency calling, regenerative braking, power supply, and backup power systems.

 

   This release of the series features a rugged construction that delivers high reliability performance and displays high capacitance, low ESR and outstanding pulse power handling characteristics. They can be used alone or with primary or secondary batteries to extend backup time and battery life, and to take advantage of instantaneous pulse power. The five new automotive supercapacitors are rated at 25F and 2.7V, 100F and 2.7V, 10F and 3V, 35F and 3V, and 100F and 3V. The device complies with UL 810A, RoHS, and REACH requirements.
