Support planar transformer design for the first time

     Power Integrations, a company steeped in high voltage integrated circuit energy efficient power transformations, announced that PI Expert™, its design tool, now has new features for planar transformers. PI Expert software is a powerful online design tool that can automatically generate optimized power supply designs based on user input specifications.

     Its current design tools that support flat transformers and generate application-specific flat transformer designs include technical documentation and Gerber files that can be transferred to printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturers at any time. The latest version of PI Expert currently supports flat transformer designs for Power Integrations' entire InnoSwitch™3 Flyback switch IC product range.

     The transformer construction function in PI Expert provides complete planar transformer information, including stack specifications, vertical and  horizontal PCB structure, routing parameters, current density information, and winding layer impedance. The tool automatically fills in user-specified creepage distance and electrical clearance according to safety isolation standards. An intuitive graphical user interface (GUI) displays vertical and horizontal stacked structures and top views of all layers. The tool can also output the detailed manufacturing information of the planar transformer design scheme, so that users can directly enter the manufacturing link from the design link.

     The tool provides a rich database of flat magnetic cores and components to simplify design, in addition to accepting custom core geometries. PI Expert can automatically optimize the planar transformer design to match the customer's power specifications, and can add winding layers and adjust the route geometry as required.
