The Texas Instruments LMR38020 is a synchronous step-down converter designed to regulate a wide input voltage range. This reduces the need for external surge suppression components. If desired, the LMR38020 operates with a duty cycle of nearly 100% during input voltage drops as low as 4.2V, making the device ideal for a wide range of input industrial applications and MHEV/EV systems.
The converter uses precision enablement to provide flexibility by allowing direct connection to a wide input voltage or precise control of device startup and shutdown. The power-good flag has built-in filtering and latency, provides a true indication of the state of the system, and does not require an external manager.
The LMR38020 integrates pseudo-random spread spectrum from minimal EMI, and the switching frequency can be configured between 200 kHz and 2.2 MHz to avoid noise sensitive bands. You can choose a frequency that increases efficiency at low operating frequencies, or a smaller solution size at high operating frequencies. Built-in protection features include week-by-week term current, belch mode short-circuit protection and hot shutdown in case of excessive power consumption. The converter comes in an 8-pin HSOIC PowerPAD package.
