TDK introduces SurfIND Series SMD common mode chokes rated up to 36 A at high temperatures

     TDK Corporation is proud to introduce the new EPCOS SurfIND series of common mode chokes. The new family of components is a current compensated toric-core dual choke that supports high current and surface mount and is designed for users who prefer reflow soldering (e.g. sandwich packages in telecommunications equipment, industrial drive equipment, etc.) but require high current common mode chokes (typically larger and heavier). The new family of components provides these users with A surface mount (SMD) solution that filters common-mode noise at temperatures of +70°C for rated currents ranging from 24 A to 36 A. The top of the component can also be used directly as a heat sink interface, so additional cooling can be easily implemented to support higher currents.

     Available in seven sensing models for applications up to 250 VAC, the family covers the nominal inductance range from 120 µH to 820 µH, with leakage sensing up to 1% of the nominal inductance value and effective differential mode noise suppression. All components are IEC/EN 60938-2 compliant and have a compact package size of 40 x 38 mm (L x W). The height of the type A component is 20.7mm, and the height of the B component is 22.3mm. Typical resistance ranges from 0.78 mΩ to 2.21 mΩ, and the inductance is derated by < 10% at rated current and DC bias at +20°C.

     The SurfIND series choke is mounted on a plastic base plate and has an epoxy-coated ferrite core to insulate the winding. The plastic base plate and epoxy coating materials are UL 94 V-0 certified. The components are designed with special wiring that eliminates the need for adhesives, while self-priming SMD leads ensure easy reflow soldering to the PCB board.
