TDK has further expanded the Micronas 3D HAL position sensor family with the new dual-chip sensor HAR 3920-2100 for automotive and industrial applications. It is designed to meet the need for high precision measurement of linear and angular positions in the presence of interference stray fields. Developed according to ISO 26262, the HAR 3920 meets ASIL Level C requirements and is suitable for integration into automotive safety-related systems at the highest ASIL level D. This sensor is suitable for gas pedal position or throttle position measurement, or non-contact potentiometers and other applications.
The HAR 3920 stands out with its dual redundancy design, where two separate chips are stacked within a single package and electrically connected to one side pin. This stacked chip architecture ensures consistent output signal characteristics by occupying the same magnetic field location. The sensor uses Hall technology to measure vertical and horizontal magnetic field components and uses Hall plate arrays to suppress external stray fields. The sensor measures a 360° Angle range and linear motion of the magnet. A simple bipolar magnet is sufficient for accurate rotation Angle measurements and can ideally be placed above the sensitive area in the shaft end configuration. The sensor also supports robust off-axis measurement of stray fields.
The HAR 3920 features linear, ratio-analog output signals and passive break detection, compatible with pull-up or pull-down resistors for a wide range of applications. In addition, it provides switching output (open drain), derived from calculated position information on the device signal path or other sources, with support for user-defined on/off points, switching logic, and switching polarity.
On-chip signal processing calculates the Angle of each chip based on the magnetic field component and converts this value into an analog output signal. Users can program non-volatile memory to adjust key characteristics such as gain, offset, and reference position.
This sensor is designed for automotive and industrial applications and can operate in an ambient temperature range from -40 ° C to 160 ° C, depending on the power supply voltage range. This sensor is compact and versatile and is available in a 16-pin SSOP16 SMD package.
