
TDK has introduced a new family of high-performance and fault-tolerant InvenSense Inertial Measurement Units (IMU) for industrial applications. The new IIM-46234 and IIM-46230 include multiple 6-axis sensors, each of which can measure three-dimensional linear acceleration and three-dimensional rotational angular velocity.
The IIM-4623X product family has the ability to make accurate measurements in harsh environments with high vibration and temperature variations, and is suitable for a variety of navigation and stability applications, including fine agriculture, construction machinery, aircraft and industrial robots. For example, construction vehicles can combine IIM-4623X measurements with data from global navigation systems, such as GPS, to determine precise position, attitude and real-time motion status in real time. This real-time information is essential to improve the automation, efficiency and safety of mobile industrial machinery. In addition, the new series integrates TDK's unique SensorFT fault tolerance.
"The SensorFT capabilities in the IIM-46234 and IIM-46230 combine multi-IMU hardware designs with our proprietary fault detection and recovery software to provide built-in redundancy and early warning capabilities," said Uday Mudoi, Director of Industry Marketing at InvenSense (TDK Group of Companies). "Systems equipped with the IIM-4623X sensor provide early warning to customers, enabling preventive maintenance to avoid operational disruptions."
TDK customers can combine the high performance industrial IMU family with InvenSense Coursa Drive software to provide a market-ready inertial navigation system (INS) with minimal development costs and resources. Coursa Drive can provide position and orientation data up to 100 Hz to AV systems in real time to complement the low-rate position reference of GNSS and sensing systems. To improve the fault tolerance of the system, Coursa Drive can provide decimeter position accuracy during short periods when the GNSS or sensing system is uncertain or unavailable.
