TDK introduces compact flat wound SMT high current chokes

     TDK Group has introduced the new ERU16 series of chokes comprising ten different models, once again expanding its EPCOS ERU SMT power inductors portfolio. The new B82559B*A016 series, which replaces the previous B82559A*A016 model, extends the inductance range from 1.0 µH to 30 µH, and the saturation DC current range at 25°C corresponds to 10.3 A DC to 40.4A DC.

     The highlight of the new power inductor is its compact design, which occupies a board size of only 17.3 x 16.5 mm2 and requires 12% less mounting space on the printed circuit board (PCB) than the previous product. It also has a low insertion height ranging from 7.55 mm (1.0 µH) to 11.1 mm (30 µH), depending on the model. The thin design of the new product is based on flat rectangular wire spiral winding technology, which can significantly reduce losses.

     The new series of high-current chokes have DC resistance ranges from 1 mΩ to 15.4 mΩ, operating temperatures from -40°C to +150°C, and an additional third solder to ensure stable soldering on the printed circuit board. The new components are RoHS compliant and AEC-Q200 certified for use as output and storage chokes in a wide range of power topologies, including point-of-load power (POL) converters, DC-DC converters, high-current switching power supplies, and inverters for photovoltaic systems in hybrid and electric vehicles.
