TDK introduces small redundant analog TMR angle sensors for safety related applications

TDK has introduced TAS4240 TMR based Angle sensors for automotive and industrial applications, adding to its tunnel reluctance (TMR) Angle sensor portfolio. The TAS4240 comes in a compact TSSOP8 package that provides dual redundant analog single end string/cosine output. The sensor enables accurate Angle measurement in applications where space is limited and high performance is required.

     TDK launched angle sensors based on TAS4240 TMR technology for automotive and industrial applications, adding new members to its tunnel magnetoresistive (TMR) angle sensor product portfolio. The TAS4240 adopts a compact TSSOP8 package and provides dual redundant analog single ended sine/cosine output. The sensor can achieve accurate angle measurement in the application conditions where space is limited and high performance is required.

 

     As a 360 ° angle sensor, TAS4240 is very suitable for accurately measuring the rotor position of BLDC motor in critical safety applications, such as power steering, brake booster or traction motor* The sensor has four TMR half bridges and can provide dual independent sine/cosine outputs. The system can achieve a high security level up to ASIL D, and can ensure high availability of location information even when one output fails. Depending on the system architecture, this sensor can also support the concept of fault operation.

 

     The development and application of TDK's most advanced TMR technology benefited from its long-term expertise in magnetic sensor technology. At the same time, the company successfully realized the small package integration of complex TMR technology, thereby optimizing its sensor products. The angle accuracy of the sensor can be kept stable in the case of temperature fluctuations and in all stages of the sensor's service life. The deterministic behavior of TAS4240 in the extended magnetic field range opens up new application possibilities, even in harsh environments.
