TDK Corporation is pleased to introduce the xEVCap, a standard modular DC supported capacitor design for passenger cars, commercial vehicles, off-highway vehicles and machine tools. Typically, such capacitor designs are fully customized, the development process is time-consuming and only suitable for high-volume order production. Moreover, the timeline can be extended further if the customer changes its requirements during development. With the scalable and modular xEVCap, TDK is able to meet the diverse capacitance and current specifications of a wide range of inverter designers in small batches and cost-effectively, while saving valuable time.
In addition, standardized capacitor modules can also reduce the number of components required to stock, thereby reducing the corresponding cost. If necessary, multiple XEVCaps can be easily connected in parallel to meet different capacitance and current requirements. The entire capacitance range meets the requirements of the automotive standard AEC-Q200 (Revision E) and IEC TS 63337:2024.
xEVCap provides two connection methods: B25654A001 is a lead type, which can be welded to the bus bar or PCB board; The B25654A002 is equipped with flat terminals that can be welded or threaded to the bus bar. The two models are also available in three different mechanical sizes and four voltage classes, respectively, with optional construction sizes (L x W x H) of 85 x 47 x 40.5 mm, 97.5 x 35.5 x 42.5 mm and 109 x 47 x 40.5 mm; Optional rated voltages are 500 V, 650 V, 850 V and 920 V; The coverage voltage ranges from 60 µF to 270 µF, depending on the rated voltage. All XEVCaps are incorporated into TDK's CLARA (Capacitor Life and Rating Parameter Query APP) tool, which simulates the electrical and thermal performance of components under different operating conditions. In addition, TDK provides SPICE models for these components.
These components can also withstand voltages exceeding the rated voltage for a certain period of time, such as 890 V at +105 °C for 100 hours on the 850-V model, and can withstand impulse voltages up to 1200 V. The new element has A rated current range of 35 A to 60 A (@10 kHz), an equivalent series inductance (ESL) of 14 nH or 17 nH (@1 MHz), and an operating temperature range of -40 °C to +105 °C.
